Opening on 26th November, “D’une Méditerranée, l’autre” a double and simultaneous exhibition at the FRAC – Marseille and the Hotel des Arts – Toulon, a show sponsored by the BNP Paribas Foundation and curated by Pascal Neveux and Ricardo Vazquez.
“D’une Méditerranée, l’autre” represents the evolution of the Italian exhibition “the sea is my land- Artists from the Mediterranean”, conceived and produced by BNL for its 100th anniversary. The show was inaugurated in 2013 at MAXXI – Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo in Rome, and then shown in 2014 at the Triennale Museum in Milan. In 2015 an excerpt was on view at Palazzo della Provincia in Bari.
The main protagonist of the initiative is the Mediterranean, interpreted not only geographically but as a cultural basin that unites different civilizations. In the exhibition the universal code of photography/video art, describes the never ending changes of the Mediterranean, territory of cultural dialogue where art with its impartial language, is able to go beyond social barriers, religious pluralism and ethnic dispersion to favor peaceful communication among those involved.
“D’une Méditerranée, l’autre”, through a series of photographs and videos bring together 32 artists and proposes an artistic path that runs along 46,000 kilometers of coastline, touching three continents (Europe, Asia and Africa ).
BNL, is pleased to contribute to the exhibition ” D’une Méditerranée l’autre” by giving the French public an opportunity to admire one of the main works in the Bank’s Collection “Viaggio nei Progetti” by Mario Schifano (Please see the picture above), the painting which represented the first source of inspiration for “the sea is my land – Artists from the Mediterranean”.
Other works from the original exhibition “the sea is my land” – Artists from the Mediterranean “, that have become part of the Banks art collection, will also be on display; Moataz Nasr – Cairo Walk, Mladen Miljanovic – Show Where it Hurts With Your Hand, David Maljkovic – Recalling Frames, Dor Guez – Two Palestinian Riders Ben-Sheman Forest, Adrian Paci – The Encounter.
