With the acquisition of the Italian bank BNL banca commerciale, in July 2006, BNP Paribas Group took on a leading position in Europe.
Founded in 1913, BNL ranks sixth in Italy in terms of amount of customer loans and deposits. As a result of the acquisition, Italy became the second largest domestic market for BNP Paribas Group in Europe.
The Group intends to become a leader in the area of investment banking in Italy and is currently developing its market shares in the areas of asset management and specialized financial services.
