A new award for “Orizzonte EUROPA”, the new BNL BNP Paribas Group’s General Management headquarters. Constructed by BNP Paribas Real Estate, the building designed by Alfonso Femia Atelier(s) architectural studio, has won the “Smart Building” award in the Offices category.
The award from the Smart Building Expo and The Next Building magazine, covered Italian projects which were finished between 1 January 2013 and 1 July 2017. The award promotes Smart architecture by giving value to the main players and stimulating the concept of the smart building as an engine and flywheel of design criteria for energy saving, management, comfort and sustainability.
Orizzonte EUROPA’s prestigious award came after a careful analysis conducted by a jury composed of Tiziana Maffei (ICOM Italy), Ludovico Solima (University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”), Roberto Vogliolo (SIEC) Domenico Lunghi (Fiera Milano), Ingrid Paoletti (Politecnico di Milano), Luca Baldin (Smart Building Expo), Roberta De Ciechi (The Next Building) and Maria Grazia Mattei (Mattei Digital Communication).
According to the members of the assessment panel, “the new BNL headquarters in Rome established itself in a competitive category. The management buildings are a privileged category for experimenting with new construction technologies. Beyond the iconic architectural value, which strikes millions of travellers arriving from Rome’s Tiburtina station, the building is a contemporary, shared and plural design which achieved the targets set by the Leed Gold Core & Shell certification by using clever technology – a key tool for workplace well-being and efficiency.”
With a built-up area of about 75,000 square meters, 12 above-ground floors and four underground floors, the building has an original and innovative design that integrates with the surrounding urban context. It gives the area a modernity, which was started by the Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour High-Speed train station designed by ABDR Architetti Associati in Rome.
